Sabayon r5.1 on AMD 64 X2 - rebooting [Solved]

I have an AMD 64 X2 4200 processor with 2 GB ram, an ATI x1800L All-in-wonder graphics card and 3 hard disks. I've booted the live CD (Sabayon 5.0) on it fine with no problems but can't get Sabayon r5.1 AMD 64, Gaming or x86 versions to boot in live CD mode or installation (both graphical and text modes). After selecting an option (install or Media centre mode) the screen goes blank and restarts the machine.

Is there a problem with r5.1 with my hardware or something I'm not doing right?

I've used the same discs on an old Laptop and they boot fine (the X86 gaming and x86 discs).

That seems strange at first, because SL 5.0 and 5.1-r1 both used the 2.6.31-kernel and ati-drivers-9.10. The difference was that 5.0 used xorg-server-1.6.3.901 and x11-base/xorg-x11-7.4, whereas 5.1-r1 used /xorg-x11-7.4-r1 and xorg-server-1.6.5. So my guess is that X.Org is the cause of your problem.

You could try pressing F5 at the boot menu when you boot the LiveDVD and adding one or more boot parameters to the kernel boot command (see the SL Wiki article Boot parameters and workarounds for problematic Hardware). Try xdriver=radeon or xdriver=radeonhd to see if you have better luck with an open-source video driver for your GPU.

Thanks, I waited though for 5.2 release and its working fine. I like that its very stable even running from DVD. This release (5.2) is awesome.
