Install GRUB only from Text Installation

Can I install GRUB only from Text Installation? Graphical Install doesn't work for me.

You should be able to or if it does not then boot back into gui / text using the " nox " cheat code at dvd boot menu+F5 for text. then once inside text / gui as root "grub-install" and it should check hd partitions and then automatically write them but it will check in /boot/grub/grub.conf as well as in /etc/fstab and /etc/mtab for correct info so make sure the fstab and mtab has it listed the way you want it.

Something like this , also check the wiki on top of this page or google for "gentoo grub" and there should be lots of guides with correct info for manual in terminal+root how-to's.

Nah that didnt work. Is there a CD i can download to install GRUB or can i install it from Mac OS X?? Or can I edit rEFIt to boot from my root partition instead of my /boot partition?

Get -- Super Grub Disk

a livecd you download and burn that recovers/installs grub

I tried that but it just hung on the Loading stage2 screen. BTW im on a MacBook.
