Any one played Machinarium in Linux?

I admired the beautifully-drawn visuals when it was released last year, and enjoyed playing the on-line demo. I recently got around to buying a few copies from Amazon UK for friends who are Windows users (the Machinarium Collector's Edition for Windows & Mac is an absolute steal at only GBP 8.58 + postage from Amazon UK) and a Linux edition for me, which I bought from the Machinarium on-line Store. You get to download the soundtrack (MP3 files) too, and I've been playing the soundtrack while I browse the Web, as it's relaxing.

I'm stuck on the fifth puzzle at the moment, and enjoying trying to work it out.

I'm running the game under SL 64-bit, and I find it runs smoothly if I do the following:

1. Turn off KDE Desktop Effects and Compiz.

2. Launch the game from the command line:

Code: Select all
$ cd ~/Machinarium
$ ./Machinarium # but crashes sometimes.
$ G_SLICE=always-malloc ./Machinarium # This works nicely.

If that does not work, try:

Code: Select all
$ linux32 ./Machinarium

3. Right-click on the Machinarium window and select Settings... then the Display tab, and untick Enable hardware acceleration.

4. Run Machinarium in a window, not full screen (select from pop-up menu at bottom of screen).

I'm not a frequent game player (my favourite was Titantic: Adventure Out of Time), but I thnk Machinarium is super, and I'm happy to buy a Linux version to help support the developer and encourage commercial developers to produce games under Linux.

I love it... :D
for me is not just a game ... There is a real artistic talent behind!

The artwork has a unique style and are drawn entirely handmade.
But the gem in my opinion are the music ...
If you buy the game (and it's worth it) there are included two mp3 albums with the soundtracks (19 total tracks).

Gives me some strange behavior that sometimes seems the pointer as captured ...
I'll try your tips to see if it improves, but now I've already finished!

In any case I will not say never the solution: you'll ruin it! :wink:
