Supertux won't start...?

Postby altairz » Sat Oct 31, 2009 1:44

I have installed Supertux, but when I start it, the window is only open a second before it closes automatically.
I also installed SuperTuxKart, and it works good, also in fullscreen mode.
Why won't supertux work as it should?

Open a Konsole/Terminal window and run it from the command line, to see if any error messages are displayed.

I just installed both games and both are working OK on my SL 5 kde amd64 system with compiz running

Will try the games on my notebook later

Could you tell us what GUI you use and what hardware you have
Desktop ASUS M2N-MX SE Plus, AMD 64 X2 Dual Core 5200, 4 Gb RAM, GeForce 9500 1GB
Notebook HP CQ61-311AX, AMD CPU M320, 4 Gb RAM, Radeon HD 4300 512 MB
Wireless AR9285, Audio ATI SBx00 (IDT 92hd75B2x5)
Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once!

when I open it in the terminal, I get this message:

"Datadir: /usr/share/games/supertux
Warning: No joysticks are available.
Memory segment error"

I use Gnome.
My hardware is:
Processor: AMD turion Dual-core rm-70 (2000 MHz)
memory: 3 gb

Not sure, but it looks to me like it might be a bug.

Do you get the problem when you are using Compiz-Fusion? If so, have you tried selecting the Metacity windows manager instead of Compiz-Fusion to see if the problem still occurs? Another thing you could also try is building it (as root in a Terminal window) with the opengl flag switched off:

Code: Select all
USE="-opengl" emerge -1v supertux

I got the same problem when I used the Metacity windows.
I have built it now, but I don't know how to turn off the opengl flag. How do I do that?

If you entered the command exactly like I wrote it:

Code: Select all
USE="-opengl" emerge -1v supertux

then you have turned off the opengl flag. Does the newly built supertux run under Metacity?

Then I'm afraid I'm all out of ideas. I suggest you file a bug report (see the link at the top right of this page), giving full details of your hardware (lspci), version of SL and the error message you quoted earlier.

Both games work on my HP C700 notebook, Celeron 530 1.73GHz, 2 gig ram, intel GM965/GL960 intergrated graphics using Gnome 2.26.3, Sabayon Linux x86_64, kernel 2.6.31-sabayon, system updated with sulfur using limbo and sabayon repos, also no problems running the games under kde

Also games are working on AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+ 4 Gb DDR2 RAM Sabayon Linux x86_64, kernel 2.6.31-sabayon, GeForce 9500 GT 1024 MB, 22" LCD (1680x1050), using Gnome 2.26.3, system updated with sulfur using limbo and sabayon repos, also no problems running the games under kde

When I run from terminal I get
$ supertux
Datadir: /usr/share/games/supertux
Warning: No joysticks are available.
And then program runs, I do not receive the Memory segment error

Supertux is running on 2 of my computers (both are 64bit) using the gnome and kde systems on different partitions

Are you running SL 5 g x86 (32 bit) or SL 5 g x86_64 (64 bit)
And have you tried equo deptest and equo libtest
