how to install mahjong or similar [Solved]

Postby johnlvs2run » Wed Jun 24, 2009 20:32

I didn't install games with Sabayon but would like to get mahjong or similar.

Can someone tell me how to install it step by step?

Thanks.

Take your pick:

Code: Select all
equo install libkmahjongg kmahjongg
equo install mahjongg3d
equo install xmahjongg

Thanks very much.
I think they didn't install yet though.
Is there something else that I need to do first?

Thanks for your very helpful instructions.

I installed the three games and rebooted, yet none of them are showing up,
except kmahjong, that doesn't open when selected.

There is a "571 updates available" notice after rebooting.
Do I need to get all of the updates?

Are you using the GNOME or the KDE desktop environment? The programs should be in the Kickoff > Applications > Games > Board Games Menu if you're using KDE. If you can't find them, try launching them from the command line (but not as root, as your normal username):

Code: Select all
$ kmahjongg

If Sulfur or Equo are telling you that you have lots of packages to update then follow the update instructions on the SL Wiki page I referenced earlier.

I am using KDE, and loaded all three of the games.
Kmahjongg is the only one that shows up under menu > applications > games > board games.
But it doesn't open when selected.
As per the wiki & the terminal, entropy is already updated to the latest version.

$ kmahjongg
bash: kmahjongg: command not found

$ mahjongg3d & xmahjongg have opened from the terminal!
Is there a way to move them to the menu, and also to get kmahjongg working too?

I'm not on a PC where I can play with SL at the moment. Check if kmenuedit is installed. If not, install it. Then launch it: a GUI will pop up and it should be obvious how to add items to the menu. Another thing you could do would be to create a Desktop Config File: open Dolphin, open your Desktop, right-click in the Desktop window on Dolphin and select Create New > Link to Application..., and the rest should be obvious. Click on the icon to select an icon you want.

Regarding kmahjongg, are you sure it installed correctly? If yes, try to find the location of the executable using the locate command:

Code: Select all
$ locate mahjongg

If the locate command does not work, it's likely that you have not got it installed, in which case install it (as root) as follows:

Code: Select all
# equo install slocate

and every so often you can update the index file (it's done automatically once a day too if I recall correctly):

Code: Select all
$ su
Password:
# updatedb
# exit
$

A right click on the "K" should give you the menu editor option. From there you can add items. However, I think it may be a good idea to update the other 571 packages first (make sure you read this thread fully first: viewtopic.php?f=76&t=16399 )
You may also find that running kappfinder will add the missing games to your menu.

Interesting... my SL 4.0-r1 installation upgraded to SL 4.2 did not have the Menu Editor option, so I had to type kmenuedit and later added it to the Menu using itself (if that makes sense). But I have this evening done a fresh install of SL 4.1 KDE (due to too many interaction problems between KDE 3.5.10 and KDE 4.2); I have just looked and, indeed, Menu Editor is there as an option. So, piece of cake.
