Major problem with wine

Postby Symphony » Thu Sep 18, 2008 15:50

Hi, I'm having some very nasty problem.
Wine works perfectly with normal applications, but when I try to open a game, it does something like this : http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/401/img1388tj7.jpg

I have an ATI Mobility X1400 video card with driver version 8.522 (fglrx)
I have 3D acceleration on as compiz does work.

Wine does this with compiz on/off so it's not because of it.

If it's of any help, other software do similar stuff in games. Cedega does this for example : http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/6260/img1391ui2.jpg in the any and all game, just like wine.

Anyone have any idea what the problem is ?
PS: Using Sabayon DVD edition 3.5 with 2.6.26 kernel and wine version 1.1.4 (but I had this problem on older versions)
- Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 45 nm 3.16 Ghz OC 3.8 Ghz
- 2 GB DDR2 (2 x 512 MB DDR2 Kingston; 2 x 512 MB ADDR2 Sycron)
- Asus EN 9800 GTX 512 MB GDDR3 OC: Core --> 802 MHz Memory --> 1187 MHz Shader --> 2005 MHz
- Hitachi 120 GB SATA

Have you tried wine-doors ?

If both does this it could be driver problems as it tries to run 2 different HZ on the screen where the Dell laptops / most laptops is stuck to 50HZ or 60HZ .

If you plug a external screen into the laptop does it do the same with the laptop screen disabled ?
Can do this with ati control panel if installed.

Try the modifications to xorg.conf for the ATI fglrx driver specified in the following post:

Setup an ATI card with the new FGLRX drivers

(Ignore the fact that it is a Compiz-Fusion thread, as this is relevant whether or not you're using Compiz-Fusion.)

**kick**

New drivers from AMD might fix this issue, for me it did!

I have this same issue. How do you go about installing the latest drivers?
