Thought this might be scary and windowlarious as even some UK submarines run on windows and then they wonder why the banks are all bankrupt LOL.

Actually, what the submarine collision shows us is that the British and French governments don't tell each other where their subs are, and the stealth protection measures used by these subs is so good that they can't detect each other, hence the collision. Apparently the UK and US tell each other where their subs are, so there is much less likelihood of a collision even if the subs cannot detect each other.

As for the Windows virus you mentioned in your first post, the article you linked to points out that it affected e-mail and Internet access, not battle systems (some of which I would hazard a guess are embedded Linux or Unix, or specialist OSs running code compiled from ADA or other defence-related programming languages). Anyway, the ongoing virus/malware attacks on Windows-based PCs, which have been happening for years, coupled with the increasing interest in Linux and the improvements in Linux over the last couple of years, may finally push some companies and agencies in various countries to think about moving to Linux. One thing I can assure you, though. If Linux was as widely used as Windows is, all the professional criminals currently focusing on attacking Windows would be focusing instead on Linux. Despite Linux being inherently less vulnerable than Windows XP, that does not mean it's invulnerable; plenty of Linux users would find they had been hacked.

I think that what it show us is that the British and French governments and their respective defence departments will not tell the public what was really going on. Probably a bit of rivalry between the captains or an attempt by one of them to stalk the other or the testing of a new, and currently secret, "system" (that has failed spectacularly!).

Also possible. Have you seen a documentary arguing that the Kursk was torpedoed by a US submarine (the USS Memphis, to be exact)? Allegedly the USS Toledo and USS Memphis were shadowing the Kursk during the latter's trials -- if I recall correctly -- of the Russian supersonic Shkval rocket torpedo (Russian 'Rocket' Torpedo Arms Chinese Subs). It was quite interesting, especially the examination of the hole in the side of the Kursk and the severed buoy of the USS Toledo (or was it the Memphis) that was found later.

After hearing recent unofficial news about "stupid" sending a letter ....
I just remebered I am such a big arse for complaining about UK / USA, at least they still try to get things to work.

My country of birth South Africa, bought something like 100 new jet fighters and they do not have 1 pilot to fly it or anyone trained to even read the weather for this new jet fighters.
The skilled persons they had they chased away so they can become a second Zimbabwe. What a joke.

The best part is when they do military training they end up shooting the soldier standing next to them in the foot with a freaking huge canon LOL yes it backfired eeessshhh.
Not even sure how many of the army has persons with driving licenses.
So I can not complain about other countries.

You know what UK and USA is great and my loyalties lies with them and whatever descisions they make even if it is bad for me I will 100% support and assist them and their government as will 97% + of South Africans overseas and on location about anything the western world does about the "new" South Africa crysis.
It is time.
