According to this;
http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Canon-PIXMA_iP1600 :roll:

I got a lovely nib canon pixma ip 1600 free from in-laws. Is there a way to use the mac osx driver that they offer for download? Canon offers no support for linux, but (correct me if I'm wrong) isn't OSX linux based?

Does anybody know of similar drivers that will work?

Or, should I just install it on my sons pc w/XP.

mac is bsd based, so if you can configure, make, and install, sure!

but most likely linux will already have drivers built in or out there not from the manufactuor...

or you can set it up on the son's machine and just share it :P

Thnx,
I'll try and set it up in the morning. Never shared a printer using linux, but when I installed SL I did notice that it picked up the other xp machines (one of which is wireless)on my home network automagically under samba shares.Could it be as easy setting it up as "shared" on my boys machine?

Yeah, I found a how to on the gentoo wiki, gonna work on it when I have more time.

Gonna have to edit conf files manually since the kde printer ui just locks up when I try to add a printer.
