Wish List - Firewall [Solved]

Postby Storm Rider » Wed Apr 27, 2011 4:26

Please consider adding a good working firewall to the default installation of the next release.

Yes, that would be a good idea...but every user has a different requirement for a firewall. Even a basic firewall imo would be better than no firewall at all. When I started using Sabayon at first, I thought it came with a firewall or iptables preconfigured...then I realised I was so wrong

But I think to make up for the lack of a firewall, the Sabayon developers have done a good job by creating an awesome guide on how to setup an advanced firewall: http://wiki.sabayon.org/index.php?title=En:HOWTO:_Make_a_Firewall_using_Shorewall_and_Webmin

Even though it would be great to learn how to customise/use other features of webmin, etc. but the basic guide is good at what it does.

Maybe it's not the same everywhere in the world, but the vast majority of people I know connect to the internet behind a router and have no need for a firewall on their computers.

I'm also behind my router's firewall. Personally... I prefer having the option of setting up a firewall if I need/want it. I like sabayon's default the way it is. I have a hard enough time trying to keep all the computers on my network talking to each other (xp, 7, linux, xbox, etc...).

I also feel the need for a good firewall (simple to use like on windows :bom: ), why is it so hard for linux users to except more security ? and even a good virusscanner (working like on ... :bom: )
You can see what happend today with "sony playstation" (millions of accounts hacked).
Or are we (linux) waiting until first virusses crashes our computers
Especially gentoo, sabayon, are working for days with internet connection.
And for the "linux cracks" they simply not install firewall and virusscanner" :D

Just simply use the package manager after install and install, simple enough.
