Hey there! I was responding to somebody in another thread when I realized that it might be nice to have a centralized place to hearing all of your feedback and fresh ideas for the "look and feel" of Sabayon to keep things nice and organized.

As always, you can also email me at squarebottle@sabayonlinux.org, or you can instant message me via jabber at the same address, or you can catch me when I'm in the IRC channel #Sabayon. But you already knew all that. ;)

Anyway, I'll start off with the response I was making to tekwyzrd concerning the KDE kicker as it currently is.

---------------------

tekwyzrd wrote:The only change I'm not sure about is the new menu layout. The icons are rather large necessitating scrolling to access some categories.

The new kicker menu is pretty much exactly ported from OpenSUSE right now. Personally, I like it, but I have pretty much the same concerns as you do.

I actually like my panels to be set to the tiny size, and unfortunately, the menu button only comes in the one size for normal, so I've got to keep my panel at normal size unless I want the button to go off screen. I know there are plenty of other people who use the other regular panel sizes, like laptop users who want the screen real estate for instance.

As far as what you were more specifically talking about inside of the opened up menu, I see your point. The thing I'm noticing though is that to get it like you want where you don't have to scroll as much, you'd not only have to shrink those icons a bit, but you'd have to either put the program name and description on the same line or shrink them down. I'd bet that it's more than doable, and I'd be interested in it too for myself to have the option of shrinking it down a bit.

One of things I'm working on right now is a Sabayon kicker theme (the menu button, icons, etc). The specific part of this that's go my attention right now is making a new menu button and having it play nice with each of the regular panel sizes (tiny, small, normal, and large), but I'll definitely also look into seeing if I can give users the option to have the lists inside the menu have smaller icons and be more compact.

And of course, if you have any other feedback on the kicker or how anything else looks and feels, just let me know. ;)

That sounds like a great idea but why not just post it in here, or just create a sub folder name "layout or theme's suggestions.
Yeah, at first the kicker was annoying but not I'm adapted but I would still enjoy having the old 3.5 kmenu back, along with the original mouse theme.
I hope you develop some wonderful eye candy. :)

yea I have to agree with keeping the nostalgia stuff. I like the original menu and mouse icons also. I like to customize things myself. Nothing fancy really.

Of course. You can actually go back to the old KDE style kicker that you prefer by right clicking the menu button and selecting "Switch to KDE Menu Style."

As for the mouse image, my first guess was to go into the KDE Settings, but I didn't see it there. I'm sure there's an easy way to change the mouse image though that I just don't know about myself. If nobody else beats them to the punch, cvill or lxnay will know.

KDE Control Center - Peripherals - Mouse ----> you can change your mouse cursor and add themes.

Heh, no problem. I'll bet it's just as easy to change the mouse theme too, but I'm sorry I don't know it myself. Next time I see cvill I'll talk to him.

Ouch. I was just about to post that after embarrassing myself by hunting down cvill.

Well, at least my first hunch was right, even if I was too blind to see it there. XD

The graphics for the kicker are in

/usr/kde/3.5/share/apps/kicker/pics

You can make a backup of this colder, then customize the artwork for the menu yourself.
