It really doesn't make sense to me.
A full menu of software you don't have installed asking if you want to install it and which package to install, I think that is more bloat than anything. Maybe you are referring to a separate program instead of a bloated menu system. Sulfur is a GUI package manager to find applications. Just use the package manager, browse and install. Lesser confusion than a bloated menu system. Maybe I just don't get what you are saying either. I just know there is no way I would want a bloated menu system.
I didn't think ubuntu was bloated and I think that is also what the ubuntu people are saying.
We have the minimal option also for those that want a more leaner system, but don't forget, talking binary here, which is gonna pull more stuff vs. a portage system with custom configs.
