^I am in two minds about it, really. The current 'Addidas/Herbalife' SL logo is very safe and quite professional-looking. When I fire up my laptop in the office or other public place the splash screen causes zero embarrassment. But at the same time the logo is rather uninspiring and unmemorable. The following logos are much more memorable and distinctive:

and I think immediately of Red Hat and openSUSE. Even if one had never heard of Red Hat and openSUSE, I don't think anyone would deny that those are eye-catching and distinctive logos. I don't think the current SL logo is as eye-catching or memorable, whereas the previous logo is both memorable, unusual and certainly eye-catching. However it is rather less 'corporate-looking' than the present Herbalife-like logo. I have got used to the current logo, but, on balance, I think the less-safe previous logo is better. I quite like to stand out from the crowd.

Had I not known it is a hen's footprint, I would have thought it to be a penguin's footprint, which is not such a bad association for a Linux distribution.

Penguin's foot print would be webbed. I myself never cared for the chicken foot print. I like the current one better, I dunno, not easy choice.

True, as it's an aquatic bird, but the footprints don't necessarily show the web:

But I agree that the common perception of a penguin's footprint is:

I'm not too fond of the openSUSE chameleon, but as a brand logo it is instantly recognisable, and it's partly the branding consideration that sways me to the hen's foot logo in the case of SL.

The logo does indeed come down to personal taste ("You say "potato", I say "potato"..." ).

that is interesting with the web print not really showing up, I would of thought it would be more visible. I agree with the whole suse theme/icon.

Glad things are fairly easy to modify to a personal taste. I'm more of a black/gray desktop look.

I'm with you 100% on that one. (Well, except that it's "grey" on this side of the Pond. :clown: :jocolor: )

Yeah, I know, it's not a real logo, but, it stands for something.

I am for "Adopt a Raptor ®"

So that we can have both a cool and attractive logo (something like http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i105/ ... 1281193990) and a powerful mascot like http://www.greatplay.net/images/velociraptor.jpg

Velociraptor - because claws matters.

I always thought the logo was a raptor. When I found out it was actually a hen, I was pretty disappointed. A raptor represents power, speed, agility and a carnivorous attitude. A hen represents... well... breakfast as far as I'm concerned :).
